Canada Student Loan Forgiveness

Choosing a meaningful career in early childhood education should not be limited by financial concern.

The Government of Canada now includes Early Childhood Educators in the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness program. This initiative helps reduce federal student loan debt for ECEs working in communities where they are needed most.

If cost has been holding you back, this may change what’s possible.

What you could receive:

Eligible Early Childhood Educators may receive:

Up to $15,000 in federal student loan forgiveness

Over a maximum of five years of service.

Loan forgiveness applies to the federal portion of your Canada Student Loan.

Eligibility Requirements for ECEs

You may be eligible if you:

Are a licensed Early Childhood Educator
Work in a rural area or community with a population of 30,000 or fewer
Complete 12 consecutive months of employment
Provide at least 400 hours of in-person service
Have a Canada Student Loan in good standing

You must apply after completing your year of service and reapply each year you continue to meet the requirements.
